Two World-Class
Parks. One Island.
Your honest, independent guide to Loro Parque and Siam Park — everything you need to plan a genuinely great day out in Tenerife, without the commercial spin.
Why Tenerife Park Guide Exists
Two extraordinary attractions, one small island, and more promotional content than honest information. We are here to fix that.
Independent Educational Website — Important Notice
Tenerife Park Guide is a fully independent, non-commercial educational platform. We are not affiliated with Loro Parque, Siam Park, Grupo Loro Parque, or any official tourism authority in Tenerife or the Canary Islands. We do not sell tickets, make reservations, or facilitate any commercial transaction. All admission prices and opening hours shown are reference figures — always verify directly with each park's official website before your visit.
Tenerife is home to two attractions that regularly appear in global rankings of the finest parks in their respective categories. Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz has been consistently named among the world's top zoological parks, with a collection and conservation programme that sets genuine international standards. Siam Park on the southern coast has been voted the world's best water park multiple times by TripAdvisor travellers — a verdict that, in this case, the experience consistently justifies.
What both parks share, beyond their Canarian setting, is a commitment to quality that distinguishes them from comparable attractions elsewhere in Europe. Both are worth visiting without reservation. The question for most visitors is not whether to go, but how to make the most of limited time, when to visit, how to get there, and what to prioritise once inside. That is exactly what this guide provides.
We have no commercial interest in either park. No admission price appears on this site that benefits us in any way. We write about both attractions honestly — including their limitations — because useful visitor information requires it.
Loro Parque & Siam Park — In Depth
Two very different experiences that together make Tenerife one of Europe's strongest family destination propositions.
Loro Parque began as a parrot park — its name means "Parrot Park" in Spanish — and has evolved over five decades into one of the finest zoological institutions in Europe. Its collection spans orcas, dolphins, gorillas, chimpanzees, tigers, jaguars, sharks, penguins, and the largest parrot collection in the world. The conservation work conducted here, through the Loro Parque Fundación, has contributed to the survival of multiple critically endangered species.
The live animal presentations — the Orca Ocean show, the dolphin show, and the sea lion show — are central to the visitor experience and are staged several times daily. The Planet Penguin habitat, which recreates Antarctic conditions including snowfall, houses several penguin species in one of the most impressive penguin exhibits anywhere in the world. The Aquarium, the Gorilla habitat, and the Bat Cave round out an experience that genuinely justifies a full day.
Siam Park occupies a category of its own among European water parks. Built on the southern coast of Tenerife with a Thai architectural theme, it has been named the world's best water park by TripAdvisor travellers for multiple consecutive years — and the experience, in this case, supports the rating. The park combines genuine thrill rides with relaxed floating options, an artificial surf beach, and an aesthetic quality that distinguishes it from the functional pragmatism of most water parks.
The Tower of Power — a near-vertical drop through a tank of live sharks — is its signature attraction and remains one of the most talked-about theme park experiences in Europe. The Mai Thai River lazy river runs through the entire park, offering an alternative to queuing. The Siam Beach artificial wave pool generates consistent waves and functions as a usable surf beach. For families with younger children, the Lost City zone provides gentler attractions at a separate pace from the thrill rides.
Orca Ocean Show
Loro Parque's flagship presentation — orcas showcasing natural behaviours in a purpose-built ocean theatre
Tower of Power
Near-vertical drop through a live shark aquarium — Siam Park's most iconic and talked-about attraction
Planet Penguin
One of the world's largest penguin habitats with Antarctic conditions including artificial snowfall
Siam Beach
A genuine artificial surf beach with consistent waves — the finest wave pool in any European theme park

When to Go
Tenerife's climate is mild year-round. The south (Siam Park) is sunnier and drier than the north (Loro Parque). Winter months bring cooler temperatures — ideal for Loro Parque, less so for Siam Park. Summer is busiest at both parks. Spring and autumn offer the best balance of weather and crowd levels.
Visiting with Children
- Both parks are excellent for families
- Loro Parque: all ages; under 3 free
- Siam Park: height restrictions on some rides
- Siam Park Lost City zone for younger children
- Loro Parque Planet Penguin — universally popular with children

Best Times — Honest Assessment
Both parks are open year-round, but the experience varies significantly depending on when you go.
Weekday Mornings — October to April
Arrive at opening (8:30 AM) and go directly to the Orca Ocean show schedule posted at the entrance — the first show of the day is typically the least crowded. The Planet Penguin habitat is at its atmospheric best in the morning before visitor numbers build. Weekdays between November and March see the park at its quietest.
Avoid the first two weeks of August and Spanish public holidays, when queues for shows form 30+ minutes before start times. The show schedule, not the rides, dictates the logic of your visit — plan around it.
Weekday Mornings — June to September
Siam Park is at its best in summer — the Tower of Power and Dragon queues are significantly shorter before 11 AM. Arrive at opening (10 AM) and tackle the signature rides before the midday peak. The wave pool and Mai Thai River are enjoyable throughout the day regardless of crowd levels.
In winter months, the water temperature is lower and the experience is less comfortable, though the park remains open. Spring and early autumn are good compromise periods — warm enough for water attractions, quieter than peak summer.
10 Things Worth Knowing
Practical guidance that makes a genuine difference to your experience at both parks.
Plan Around the Show Schedule at Loro Parque
The Orca Ocean, dolphin, and sea lion shows run at fixed times throughout the day. Pick up the schedule at the entrance and build your park route around it — the shows are the highlights of the visit and should not be missed.
Tower of Power First at Siam Park
Go directly to the Tower of Power when Siam Park opens. It consistently has the longest queue of any attraction and that queue builds quickly after 11 AM. Getting it done first frees the rest of your day.
Tickets from Official Sources Only
Both parks' tickets must be purchased from their official websites or on-site. Tenerife Park Guide does not sell tickets. Purchasing from street vendors or unofficial websites carries real fraud risk.
The Free Mini Train is the Best Way to Loro Parque
The free mini train from Plaza de los Reyes Católicos in Puerto de la Cruz is more convenient than driving and drops you directly at the park entrance. It runs every 20 minutes from 9:00 AM and avoids parking complications entirely.
Bring Reef-Safe Sunscreen to Siam Park
Siam Park requires reef-safe sunscreen — standard chemical sunscreens are not permitted due to their impact on the water filtration systems. Purchase reef-safe sunscreen before arrival to avoid having to buy it at park prices inside.
Allow the Full Day at Both Parks
Neither park can be done justice in less than four hours. Both reward a full day. Attempting to combine both parks in a single day is not recommended — you will rush both and enjoy neither properly.
Photography at Loro Parque
Photography is permitted throughout Loro Parque. Flash is not permitted near any animals. During the Orca and dolphin shows, the front rows of the viewing area — the "soak zone" — are exactly what they sound like. Sit further back if you want to keep your camera dry.
Lockers at Siam Park Are Essential
You cannot take bags onto the rides at Siam Park. Locker hire is available and is a practical necessity — budget for it. Some lockers are timed; others are day lockers. Check the current options and pricing at the park entrance.
Eat Before Entering
Food inside both parks is significantly more expensive than equivalent quality outside. At Loro Parque, the area around Puerto de la Cruz has excellent options. At Siam Park, eat in Adeje or Los Cristianos before entering — both are within 10 minutes of the park.
Verify Everything Before You Go
Opening hours, show schedules, and admission prices are subject to change. Tenerife Park Guide provides reference information for planning only. Check each park's official website within 48 hours of your visit for current information.
Honest Reviews
Real impressions from visitors to both parks — enthusiastic and candid in equal measure.
"The Orca show at Loro Parque is extraordinary. I've been to marine parks in Florida and Australia — this is on another level. The animals are visibly healthy and the relationship between trainers and animals is remarkable to watch."
"Siam Park deserves every award it has won. The Tower of Power is terrifying in the best way. The wave pool is genuinely surfable. The whole place feels designed by people who actually thought about what a great water park experience means."
"Planet Penguin at Loro Parque is extraordinary — the Antarctic environment is remarkably convincing and the penguins are clearly thriving. My honest note: avoid Saturday afternoons. The park is significantly better on weekday mornings."
"We visited with children aged 6 and 9. Both parks were excellent. Loro Parque held the 6-year-old's attention for a full day — the parrots, penguins, and sea lions were the highlights. Siam Park's Lost City zone was perfect for both ages."
